I offer comprehensive Gender Assessments for teens 13 years and older. These assessments include a clinical interview with your child, a clinical interview with you and the other caregivers in your child’s life, psychological measures, and surveys filled out by your child’s teachers around their social/academic life. Each assessment will outline gathered data, which support a detailed recommendation around the potential best avenues to support your child. If clinically appropriate this assessment can serve as the document needed to begin medical interventions such as hormone blockers, HRT, or surgery. Please note however, that many pediatric gender clinics require the young person to be engaged in mental health care for about 6 months, thus this will often be in my recommendation if not already engaged. Gender assessments are also useful for other mental health providers who are working with a gender expansive teen and do not feel they are able to/or believe it would be best to obtain the assessment from another therapist.
Gender assessments for teens are often scheduled on Saturdays. I require that all legal caregivers give written consent before beginning the assessment. I encourage all caregivers to be present for the assessment. The assessment takes roughly four hours (with a 10 minute break in the middle). During this four hour block of time, the clinical interviews will take place; as well as, both the young person and caregivers will fill out psychological measures. All of us will meet again one week later (included in the price) for a feedback session, in which I will discuss with you my recommendations and allow ample time for questions to be asked.
Teens who are engaging with this writer for individual mental health counseling will receive a comprehensive assessment if desired after 6 months engagement, which is included in the individual counseling session price
